Description: NARA GX Catalogue
This image shows a forward airstrip, most likely Russian. This airstrip would have been used to support front line troops at the Battle of Narva in 1944. Several strongpoints with radiating trenches surrounding command bunkers can be seen. Earth revetments are visible in several locations on this image. These are aircraft and large vehicle blast pens and anti-aircraft batteries. The large vehicles are probably self-propelled artillery, indicating how close this airfield is to the front line on the date of photography.
